This is a black comedy and cruel fairy tale. Strange game and the mix between Kafka and Orwell style. It is a subtle parody of a fake world, but in the same way, a tribute to the innocent. A modern tragedy, and one of Robert de Niro best characters. Anatomy of enthusiasm and commitment to freedom inside. Ionesco slices and seeds of Joseph K. And some interesting questions: Is the ordinary life wrong? Ordinary life is just illusion? Life is just what kind of dream and his dream is to wake? Is it a trap, an excuse or a strange and sarcastic art? A metaphorical journey beyond the shadows? That their game without rules and any real chance to be false that the reflection of the ideas? Perhaps, but the error is more ambiguous as the skin of desire. |
It is visionary, it is absurd, it's fun, but above all - is frankly frightening. Gilliam brand-mark of the dry bones, pitch-black comedy makes for some cruel satire, which is only aided by the brilliant production design and the hodgepodge of genres. In fact, compaction of the entire 20th century into a single mosaic cultural pastiche, combined with the time and place vague, hammers the point that this is not a vision of some futuristic dystopia parodic, is a commentary on our own time. And what is not really a work of science fiction at all, while the fantasy settings and technological advances will certainly help. This is a political satire, through and through. It is one of the best movies of all time. |
I will not say I am a big fan of Terry Gilliam's style of filmmaking. I do not like slapstick or the UK. Call me crazy, or whatever! But despite how strange it may seem, still loved this movie. Both the visual aspect, and because the story remains a depressing and misanthropic tone, hidden beneath the jokes that made the Brazil film easier to swallow. And I thought it was even fun at times. Jonathan Pryce does a great job as Sam Lowry, a gray office slaves caught in a futuristic urban hell. Clearly inspired by Metropolis. Her daily routine of work, his mother and operators are almost hysterical revenge leads him mad, and he spends long days dreaming of a fantasy world, where he is a hero to save a winged blond virgin a giant samurai. But her life takes a radical turn when an innocent man is arrested terrorism. Sam contact a rebel (Robert De Niro) and his dream girl (Kim Greist) and their imagination of the escalation of the system. As I said, the Brazil Sci-Fi is very dark inside, but dressed in lots of humor. It happens to work very well. The sets and costumes seem really amazing, like a world of high technology in a value of 30. There are plenty of chilling scenes come, including the face and spreads session scalpel torture scene with Michael Palin baby using a mask. In a very ugly way absurd and surreal. The DVD film Brazil is beautifully shot by Roger Pratt and the actors, music and direction is also performing well. Overall a great movie. |
A bold film, and that was just born to be a cult classic. I've only seen "Brazil" only once, but once was enough to make me fall in love with her, and I am sure that is the kind of movie: Brazil that gets better and better to the more you see. Jonathan Pryce plays a man trapped in a dystopian future that looks like something from Monty Python by George Orwell. Visionary director Terry Gilliam creates a fantastic visual world, and a number of major actors in small roles - Robert De Niro has a memorable scene in particular as a man of repair. And I give enormous credit for Gilliam paste to their arms and that gives us a downbeat ending to the Director's Cut. Grade: A |
When Brazil was released, I was a precocious teenager and I could not find anything interesting in this sad old movie. How wrong I was! Since then, I've seen it many times again and have appreciated every bit of it. It is a masterpiece and now I can say that I believe the best science fiction DivX film Brazil ever made! Just great! As with all great films, there is no need to describe specific scenes or events to justify his greatness. Finally, I would link with the DivX Movie Brazil Monty Python works. Terry Gilliam proves here why the comedy is a very serious matter. Brazil is not a comedy, although it has its moments, but it is evident that a good comedian can produce a much more profound and dramatic Brazil Sci-Fi movie a "serious" director. |
