| Director Warren Beatty's intention to turn Chester Gould's famous cartoon in a cartoon in live action (with Beatty cast himself in the head of the square-jawed detective) had fresh overtures of innocent nostalgia - and quite unusual intriguing from Warren Beatty. Unfortunately, the picture is necessary ham, fun for a while but eventually tired. Dick Tracy tries to shoot down mafia boy Caprice, with the help of love, but Tess Trueheart tripped by bad breath Mahoney. For the first half hour or so, the Oscar-winning art direction and scenery are wonderful to absorb, but as along the predictable plot creaks (no real sting in writing), things begin to freeze. Al Pacino is a surprise Oscar nomination as supporting Bad Boy Caprice and Madonna (which is often used as a decorative prop) comes to Stephen Sondheim singing "Sooner or later (I always my man), that the award for copper Best song. Lots of heart, thanks to Beatty - which was dedicated to his vision - but the image is too cold and calculated. No heat. * 1 / 2 **** |
| If Dick Tracy was in black and white, the Pope would not be religious. Giving a new meaning to the concept of a color film, which offers a unique experience through a comic-strip world, and is one of the few movies that have succeeded in doing so, thanks to a script, good direction, great actions (Al Pacino is amazing) and most importantly, a powerful mixture of photography, art direction and costumes. Using only primary colors, the experience is very different from anything we've seen before. And there is also a great tribute to all the success gangster-movie genre, virtually extinct in modern cinema. In general, I see this DVD film Dick Tracy as a new attempt and a touch of originality to a DivX Movie Dick Tracy that relies increasingly seen as the old formulas. 7 out of 10. |
| "Dick Tracy" is one of our favorite family - the actors are great - the art direction is exceptional - the music is magic. That's not supposed to be "To Kill a Mockingbird" - is a fun experience. Stephen Sondhemim stellar songs are: "Back in Business" is strong, "sooner or later" is just "What can we lose" is disturbing - even songs like "living alone and they like to" add to history You have to love the exaggerated actions giddily Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Glenn Headly, Charlie Korsmo, Mandy Patinkin, James Caan, Dick Van Dyke, support for the villains ... The list is too long. And, yes - even Madonna and Warren Beatty are impressive. Written with a smile a minute (how many times we have analyzed each and said: "Wait a minute - I have an idea - is passed !"?). However, one of the most revealing about the things in this DVD film Dick Tracy is that all participants seemed to be having a good time - and, above all, that adds to the enjoyment for the viewer. So if you have not already done so, why not give "Dick Tracy" a chance - to accept that what is - a Sunday comics brought to life - and a wonderful way! |
| Too much style and not enough substance. That sums up the effort in 1990, faithfully based on the popular comic strip about the no-nonsense private dick in the trench coat and fedora yellow. Director Warren Beatty is decent in the title role of Tracy concerns grotesque villains, a rambunctious young boy and the demands of the two loves of his life - and his girlfriend Tess Trueheart work. Things are further complicated when it is framed for murder and attempts to unravel a mystery set in motion by the mysterious man with no face. Worst of "Dick Tracy" - and is not quite a terrible Dick Tracy film - is that the plot is not as consistent. Simply go from one scene to another without much thought or consequence. It plays more like a series of old series such that a DivX film Dick Tracy Cliffhanger uninterrupted. And Madonna, as a lounge singer breath Mahoney is annoyingly trampy. In his defense, "Dick Tracy" is probably the greatest comic book feel of any film. His use of color, makeup and music, is sometimes surprising to see. But none of this has a story to match. It's like the writers felt that what Tracy to the big screen (it was not long after "Batman" exploded in the theater) was sufficient. Get the detective on the screen and the rest will follow. No, but even so, "Dick Tracy" has enough quality to make an exchange of value that a lease on a slow night. |
